THE COLOURS OF ALTON
Alton Estate, London 2025
This project was commissioned by the Wandsworth Council to curate and produce a series of new community-led public artworks on the Alton Estate. Its aim was to empower local residents by giving them a voice in the artworks created for their area, and by offering opportunities to take part in both the design and painting processes.
The mural is a vibrant celebration of community, culture, and place. Developed through extensive research and community workshops, it was painted during the half-term holidays together with young people from Alton State. Inspired by their ideas, the colourful birds reflect their energy, dreams, and creativity, symbolising the joyful and vibrant spirit of the community.
Both the design and painting workshops were very well received, with more than 50 children, 20 adults, and several local community groups taking part.
