OUR FREEDOM THEN & NOW
Level Centre, Derbyshire 2025
Collaboration with the LEVEL Centre in Matlock, Derbyshire, as part of the national “Our Freedom Then & Now”, an arts programme which brought community-based events into arts centres across the UK to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the World War II. Over two weeks, I worked with a group of adults with learning disabilities, leading a project for the final exhibition of the Secret Freedoms programme, supporting them to create an artwork for an exhibition held inside a steam train at Rowsley South Station. Together, we explored different materials, techniques and visual references to express what freedom meant to us, using big canvases, stencils and spray cans as a tool to communicate. We ended exhibiting our pieces inside a train carriage.
